  • Which Program Is Right for My Child?

If your child is new to hockey, there are two great ways to get started with Campbell River Minor Hockey Association.


๐ŸŒŸ Option 1: NHL/NHLPA First Shift

If your child is between 6 and 10 years old and has never played hockey before, we strongly encourage families to consider the NHL/NHLPA First Shift Program as their introduction to the game.

First Shift is designed specifically for first-time hockey players and provides a fun, welcoming, and affordable introduction to hockey.

This option is ideal for:

  • Boys and girls ages 6-10
  • First-time hockey players
  • Families who do not already have hockey equipment
  • Players looking for a fun and supportive introduction to hockey

๐Ÿ’ Introductory on-ice sessions

๐Ÿ’ Professional instruction

๐Ÿ’ Fun and welcoming learning environment

Registration Steps

Step 1

Visit the NHL/NHLPA First Shift registration website here!

Step 2

Complete your First Shift registration.

Step 3

Receive confirmation and program information from First Shift and CRMHA.

Step 4

Attend the Welcome Event on October 4th and then your First Shift ice sessions and enjoy your introduction to hockey!

Step 5

After completing First Shift, players can continue their hockey journey through CRMHA programs.


๐Ÿ’ Option 2: Register Directly with CRMHA

This option is ideal for:

  • Players of any age eligible for minor hockey
  • Families who already have hockey equipment
  • Players with previous skating or hockey experience
  • Families looking to join Recreation, Female Hurricanes, Development, or Representative hockey programs

Registration Steps

Step 1 - Contact CRMHA

Before registering, please contact CRMHA so we can create a Hockey Canada profile for your player.

Please provide:

  • Player's full name

  • Date of birth

  • Parent/guardian email address

  • Home address

  • Postal code

  • Citizenship

  • Indigenous identity (if applicable)

  • Race & ethnicity

  • Year moved to current address

Once your player's profile has been created, CRMHA will provide you with their Hockey Canada Registry (HCR) Number.

Step 2 - Complete the BC Hockey Shift Forward Parent Program

All new hockey families are required to complete the BC Hockey Shift Forward Parent Program.

This free online program helps parents understand the hockey environment, expectations, and how to support their child throughout their hockey journey.

Step 3 - Register Your Player

Once you have:

? Received your player's HCR Number from CRMHA

? Completed the BC Hockey Shift Forward Parent Program

You are ready to return to the CRMHA Registration Portal and register your player for the upcoming season.

Step 4 - Watch for Updates

Watch for information regarding evaluations, team placement, season startup dates, and program updates throughout the summer.
