If your child is interested in hockey for the first time, you're in the right place.
At Campbell River Minor Hockey Association (CRMHA), we welcome players of all skill levels—from children who have never stepped on the ice to experienced players looking for competitive opportunities.
No hockey experience is required, and many of our players begin their hockey journey with little or no skating experience.
CRMHA offers a variety of hockey programs designed to meet the needs of players of all ages, skill levels, and interests.
The starting point for most players. Recreation Hockey focuses on fun, skill development, teamwork, sportsmanship, and building a lifelong love of the game.

For children ages 6-10 who are completely new to hockey, the NHL/NHLPA First Shift Program is another excellent option.
The program includes:
Full Bauer hockey equipment
Introductory on-ice sessions
A welcoming environment designed specifically for beginners
Please note that players may register for either:
NHL/NHLPA First Shift
OR
CRMHA's regular hockey program
but not both at the start of the season. First Shift Participants are eligible to register with CRMHA and finish their season on a CRMHA team once the First Shift Program ends.

Not necessarily.
While players will enjoy hockey more if they are comfortable moving around on the ice, many children begin hockey with limited skating experience.
A good goal is for your child to be able to stand up independently and move around the ice while wearing full equipment.
If your child is brand new to hockey, don't let that stop you from registering!
All players require standard Hockey Canada approved equipment, including:
CSA-approved helmet with full face cage
Neck guard
Shoulder pads
Elbow pads
Hockey gloves
Hockey pants
Jill or athletic supporter
Shin guards
Hockey socks
Skates
Hockey stick
